Preventing Workplace Injuries in Canada and Australia

I worked with Passport to Safety Canada and Passport to Safety Australia to redesign the Passport to Safety series of courses which are focused on preventing workplace injuries and deaths primarily among young workers. The Canadian Passport to Safety series included a series of fourteen different courses designed for different target audiences. The Australian Passport to Safety series included four courses designed for audiences in different workplace environments.

These courses were designed with an upfront assessment that identified areas where learners needed additional learning and support. Due to a compressed delivery timeline, I worked extended hours to ensure that the delivery timelines were met. The development process included harvesting content and questions from a database, organizing the content into topic areas and lessons, identifying gaps in content and conducting research to fill gaps. Existing videos were sourced and included to appeal to a wider variety of learning styles.

The Australian Passport to Safety series required me to work with a subject matter expert across the world in a vastly different time zone. This also meant adapting my work schedule in order to meet with the client at times convenient to them.

Some of the courses include:

  • Passport to Safety 101 – Designed for learners who would benefit from an alternative, visual format and audio support.
  • Passport to Farm Safety – The Passport to Farm Safety is aimed at young Canadians who are living, working, or planning to work on farms, ranches, or for other agricultural organizations.
  • Passport to Safety – Teen Challenge – This test is aimed at teens, 19 years of age and under, who are working or that plan on working. This test covers a wide range of topics including Occupational Health and Safety legislation, worker rights and responsibilities, hazards in the workplace, and how to work safely.

During the launch of the Canadian Passport to Safety series of courses to more than 70,000 users in Ontario schools, I assisted in providing help desk services to orient new group course administrators in navigating and accessing the new system.

“Meaghan was extremely helpful, responsive and easy to work with, particularly for someone from a non-IT background and on the other side of the world!”
